Kiteboarding (or Kitesurfing) is the hottest, fastest growing water sport in the world today. It is a blend of the best of many other sports, all wrapped up into something new, exhilarating, and surprisingly simple to learn. Advances in kite and board technology and improvements in teaching methods have made kiteboarding a sport (for many, a new way of life) most people can safely and easily pick up in a long weekend.
Kiteboarding is like windsurfing - but the sail is on 75 ft lines, and is not just a sail but a parachute as well. It is like wakeboarding - but there is no boat, no engine exhaust, just an enormous power kite the rider can control. It is like paragliding - but instead of jumping off a mountainside, a kitesurfer can take off from the water, get up to 30 or 40 feet of air, float back down and ride away again.
More confused than you were before? Understandable. You have to see it to believe it, and once you see it, you'll want to do it. And you can - we promise! Kiteboarding is becoming so popular and mainstream because anyone can do it. People all over the world from any kind of sports background, or with no sports background at all, are discovering the thrills of kiteboarding. At SkyWalk Kiteboarding, we have taught children under 10 and people pushing 70, and everyone who wants to has become a kiteboarder ... and has had a blast doing it.
Kiteboarding is a personal sport you can tailor just to your liking. You can ride on the glassy water of a lake or in the pitching waves of your local surf spot.
You can go for a mellow, sunset cruise or go out for an adrenaline session of huge jumps and wave riding.
Kite sports are not limited to the water either. If you are an avid skier, snowboarder, traditional surfer, ice-skater, roller-blader, mountain boarder, sledder, kayaker, ...
(the list is endless), a power kite might be just the thing you need to spice up your favorite sport. Kite snowboarding and skiing are taking off at winter destinations everywhere. You can kite landboard in big grassy fields, kite rollerblade in empty parking lots, even kite with an iceboat on a frozen pond.
One of the safest, simplest and most rewarding ways to join the kite craze is to learn to kiteboard. You need not be particularly strong or brave or athletic. Kiteboarding requires no special skills to learn, just a little patience and a willingness to make a few mistakes along the way.
Kitesurfing kites are both a flashback to a childhood toy and a surprisingly powerful, very grown-up toy. As long as you are learning in a safe and supervised environment, you will have the dual thrill of feeling like a kid again and experiencing what it's like to be an extreme sports athlete.
Don't just take our word for it though - call or email us to schedule a lesson today. We look forward to seeing you on the water.
